The Proposition 33 campaign is excited to announce that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors endorsed Proposition 33, an initiative on the statewide ballot that would allow local communities to expand rent control.
It is significant that two of the largest counties in California – Los Angeles and San Francisco – have endorsed Proposition 33.
Tenants in both counties are paying skyrocketing rents and a majority are rent-burdened, paying over 1/3 of their income in rents. Hardest hit have been lower income tenants – including seniors on a fixed income, students, retail workers, hotel and restaurant workers.
But even tenants in the moderate income bracket are finding it hard to pay rent.
The campaign would like to commend Supervisor and Board President Lindsey Horvath for her incredible leadership on behalf of tenants in introducing the motion to endorse Proposition 33. Supervisor and former Labor Secretary Hilda Solis seconded the resolution. Supervisor Janice Hahn also supported it.
Vote YES on Prop 33 and NO on Prop 34 in November to expand rent control in California.
